Lorraine Brooks-Body

Lorraine Brooks-Body, 71, of Roselle, N.J., passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023. A
celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Mt. Teman AME
Church, 160 Madison Ave., Elizabeth, N.J. Visitation will be held Friday, June 9, 2023, from 6 to
8 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are in the loving care of the Nesbitt Funeral Home, 165
Madison Ave., Elizabeth, N.J. Lorraine was born in Elizabeth and a long-time resident of
Roselle. She joined Wakefern Food Corporation in 1971 and worked diligently for 50 years,
trailblazing opportunities for women and people of color. Mrs. Body was an active member of
many organizations. She served as chair of the Roselle School District Steering Committee;
President of the Urban League of Union County Guild; President of the Women’s Scholarship
Club; Treasurer of the Roselle Public Library Board of Trustees; and board member of the
African-American Learning Center in Elizabeth. She was also an active volunteer with Roselle
Women on the Move. She is predeceased by her husband, Larry Body; and her parents, Jesse and
Ruth Brooks. Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Bianca and Lauren; her sisters, Denise and
Pamela; her beloved nephew and niece, Isaiah and Gabrielle; and other family and friends.
