Mable Harris Chism Obituary

Mable Harris Chism was born July 1, 1936, in Cleveland County, North Carolina. Mable was 2nd out of 3 children born to Coleman Harris & Marion Kee Harris Wray. The Lord saw it was time to call His servant home on September 2, 2022, at Trinity Glenn Rehab, Winston Salem, NC.

In 1955, Mable graduated from Douglass High School in Lawndale, North Carolina, and Barbizon Beauty School in New Jersey. She was very proud of that. She found her passion in sewing class. After High School, Mable moved to Baltimore, Maryland. She met and married Joel Chism. Mable had 4 beautiful children, Steve, Dexter, Norman(Jamil) & Byron. Mable moved to New Jersey and made a nice home there for many years. She lived in Elizabeth & moved to Linden, NJ.  She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, Elizabeth, NJ.

Mable loved life and during her lifetime she held many careers and professions.  She worked for Exxon Research Park, Linden, NJ.  Mable cared for several doctors and their family member’s like Dr. Hanes, Cranford, NJ. Mable was a seamstress by trade and became well known for her beautiful prom dresses, wedding gowns and choir robes she designed. She found a love for upholstering furniture too. She carried out her duties with passion and grace.  Whether it was hosting and arranging fashion shows or test driving cars, she did it all with passion. She was determined to provide for her family.  Mable had a God-given knowledge of all things.  There wasn’t anything she couldn’t do.  Her skills were amazing.  She happily and gracefully enjoyed running her own upholstery and seamstress business.  Mable enjoyed the power to choose her own projects.  She put her artistic desires on the side to concentrate on becoming a caregiver.
